Our insight on where the IP market is heading

Our forecast for the remainder of 2011 indicates a gradual recovery in the demand for IP Professionals. Given the poor employment climate in 2009 and 2010, we have witnessed a substantial increase in the number of IP positions for both companies and law firms. By far, companies are leading the way. The largest growth in the number of patent positions can be found in the electrical and computer software arts. This statistic holds true for both the in-house and law firm positions as well as for patent prosecution and patent litigation positions.  Our in-house clients have also alerted us to their increased needs for candidates who have expertise in licensing, M&A, and monetization/value extraction.

We have seen a smaller increase in the number of life science positions, but there are indicators that the market should continue to improve throughout the remainder of 2011 and even more so in 2012.
